Peach trees are vulnerable to a disease called leaf curl. It is caused by the fungus Taphrina deformans. A thorough treatment protocol with fungicide can control the disease.
Disease
Peach leaf curl affects the fruits, blossoms, leaves and shoots. It appears as a reddish area on new leaves. The area thickens, turns yellow, then grayish white and finally the leaf curls.
Control
Applying fungicides after the leaves have fallen in the fall and again during the dormant period will help prevent fungal infection.
Copper
The most effective fungicides contain metallic copper equivalent (MCE). The higher the concentration of MCE in the fungicide, the more effective it is against fungal infection.
Increasing Effectiveness
Mixing copper fungicides with agricultural spray oils increases the amount of time the tree will be protected from fungal infections.
Lime Sulfur
Another treatment option is lime sulfur. It should be applied to peach trees immediately after mixing the solution. The solution can cause burns so handle with caution.
