Interest in reducing exposure to pesticides is one factor behind the increasing popularity of organic fruits and vegetables. Pesticides have been linked to cancer and other health problems, according to PBS.org. Despite the growing availability of organic produce, the higher cost keeps it out of reach for some households. Properly washing and preparing your fruit and vegetables can significantly reduce pesticide residue and lower the risk of food-borne illness.
1、Hold the fruits or vegetables under cool running water. Allow the water to run between any leaves and crevices.
2、Rub the fruits and vegetables with your hands to remove any dirt or debris. Scrub very dirty produce, such as root vegetables and mushrooms, with a produce brush.
3、Peel fruits and vegetables known to contain a wide array of pesticides, such as potatoes, apples and peaches to reduce pesticide exposure.
